Propagation

Propagation soil for seedlings and cuttings

Our range of growing media for the propagation of seedlings and cuttings consists of three product lines: TRAY-Balance, TRAY-Elite and TRAY-Thrive. The TRAY-Elite Line is especially suitable for smaller pot sizes and can also be used without a problem in automated potting processes. The TRAY-Thrive Line is made of coarser materials and is therefore suitable for larger tray sizes and for automated systems like Ellepot.

European peat vs. Canadian peat in propagation soil

Our mixtures are made with peat that is harvested in Europe. The properties of peat differ at each harvesting site, due to the local climate and environmental influences. Therefore, European peat is different from the Canadian peat that is commonly used in The United States.

For example, European peat creates an airier mixture than Canadian peat, which makes the addition of materials such as perlite unnecessary in most cases. Click to learn more about these and other benefits in this article!

Propagation mixtures

We can supply growers with several different types of propagation media that are best-suited for their growing conditions and methods. The TRAY-Balance Line is particularly suitable for use in hotter climate zones, while the TRAY-Thrive product line is best for bigger tray sizes. The TRAY-Elite product line is most suitable for smaller tray and plug sizes. Continue reading to learn more about our different propagation mixtures and their unique qualities.

TRAY-Balance

This growing medium has been specially designed for use in hotter climate zones. The addition of black peat provides a high water-retention capacity, which is extremely useful in these circumstances.

The mixture is a combination of black and white European peat.

TRAY-Thrive

TRAY-Thrive has been designed for use in bigger trays, such as 4-7 cm plugs and forest plant trays. It is suitable for intensive production in demanding climate conditions. That means this medium is a particularly good solution when you are dealing with humid and cold conditions or extremely warm and humid conditions.

Due to its coarser texture, this mixture is particularly suitable for young plants with strong roots, including grafted rootstock. TRAY-Thrive is composed of European block peat and medium-coarse screened peat.

TRAY-Thrive-P

The “P” in TRAY-Thrive-P stands for added Perlite. This product is similar to the regular Tray Thrive mixture, and can be used for the same crops. However, the perlite brings even more airiness to the growing medium.

TRAY-Elite-M

The “M” in TRAY-Elite-M stands for “Multi-Purpose”. This means that TRAY-Elite-M is suitable for use with a diversity of crops. It is composed of fine fraction European peat, making the mixture suitable for trays with 160-600 plugs. The medium can be used for machine filling without any issues. TRAY-Elite-M is an airy mixture, which is extremely important for the development of a strong root system during propagation in this growing medium. Using TRAY-Elite-M will ensure a quick and successful root development from the start.

TRAY-Elite-T

The “T” in TRAY-Elite-T stands for “Turbo”. In this version of the Elite line, the finest particles have been removed to ensure a more homogeneous cell filling. Due to the removal of dust, this growing medium has an extremely porous and airy structure that promotes root development. TRAY-Elite-T is recommended for use with Ellepot systems and is globally used for the propagation of various vegetables, lettuce and herbs.

TRAY-Elite-S

The “S” in TRAY-Elite-S stands for “Strong”, because this mixture is particularly suitable for young plants with strong roots and for grafted rootstock. This medium was specially designed for the intensive production of young plants in demanding climate conditions. Thus, it is an ideal solution when you are dealing with humid and cold conditions or extremely warm and humid conditions.

TRAY-Elite-S provides crops with a higher-than-average drainage number, which makes it a great choice for species that are sensitive to overwatering.

TRAY-Elite-P

The “+ P” in Tray Elite + P stands for added Perlite. This growing medium is suitable for use with a diversity of crops, but is particularly useful for plants that need an extra-airy texture. It is composed of fine fraction European peat, which is suitable for trays with 160-600 plugs. The mixture can also be used for machine filling without any issues.

Tray Elite + P is an airy mixture, which is extremely important for the development of a strong root system. Using Tray Elite + P will ensure quick and successful root development from the start.
