Casing Soil

Ideal basis for mushroom growers

The production of all BVB Substrates casing soils intended for mushroom growing is based on years of experience. Regardless of the grower’s requirements or growing method/system used, we can provide the ideal casing soil to meet every need. We have become the leading specialist in the mushroom segment, and our casing soil is the standard for professional mushroom growers in more than 20 countries.

BVB Substrate focuses on the consistent production and supply of top quality casing soils. To this end, only the highest quality raw materials are used. Our purchasers select the best quality raw materials from various peateries. Regular checks performed by our laboratory on the raw materials ensure the production of the ideal casing soil, benefiting mushroom growers in the Netherlands and abroad. A typically Dutch company, we have become one of the largest players in our field.

Modern production facilities

BVB has ample storage capacity and extra large, covered production facilities. This guarantees punctual deliveries even under the most inclement weather conditions. We use state-of-the-art technology in producing our casing soil. Achieving the ideal final product is also made possible through the use of computer controlled mixing lines and a sophisticated sieving system. The scaling and water dispensing of the casing soil to be shipped are checked and registered. You can choose from at least ten various levels of moisture content, ranging from 68% to 80%. The ability to choose from a range of compositions comprising two semi manufactured products enables you to determine the process ability of the required casing soil. In short, we can supply the casing soil that best fits your needs. Consult one of our representatives to determine the ideal composition for your growing system.

Optimum hygiene
You are well aware of the key role hygiene plays in mushroom growing. Naturally, the importance of hygiene also applies to the production and transport of our casing soil. To this end, each lorry is thoroughly cleaned in our own car wash.

Craftsmanship at its best

Our state-of-the-art company and the critical selection of raw materials are at the heart of our success. Providing you with the best casing soil is the result of years of experience and extensive knowledge of mushroom growing. Our employees keep abreast of the latest developments in growing technique in the Netherlands and abroad. Specialist knowledge goes into the production of our casing soil. Finally, much like mushroom growing, the production of casing soil will always require a human touch. For this reason, our product package includes regular visits and specialist growing recommendations.

We offer a range of packaging options for our casing soil. Below is a detailed overview of these options:

Bulk shipments
We can deliver our casing soil in bulk to all clients in the Netherlands and —to a lesser extent— clients in neighboring countries. For this, we can offer an extensive range of transport options:

  • Dump lorries or lorries equipped for horizontal unloading
  • Lorries equipped with a dispenser
  • Silos or containers equipped with a dispenser, which can unload directly in the filling machine; combining optimum hygiene and maximum ease.

Big Bags

In addition to bulk shipments, we also offer clients outside of the Dutch market the Big Bag. This packaging option is available in the following formats: 1,000 litres, 1,250 litres, 1,750 litres and 2,000 litres.

Bags

Bags are another packaging option for casing soil. With the recent installation of two complete, state-of-the-art packaging lines, BVB can now pack products in bags of various sizes. All pallets are provided with a watertight shrink-wrap to increase stability, maximize hygiene and assure long-term quality. The Bags are available in the following formats:

3 litres - 600 bags per 80 x 120-cm pallet
5 litres - 400 bags per 80 x 120-cm pallet
50 litres - 51 bags per 80 x 120-cm pallet
50 litres - 72 bags per 80 x 115-cm pallet (for transport via sea container)

Big Bales
BVB recently added the Big Bale to its range of packaging options for casing soil deliveries outside of the Netherlands. Many clients have already benefited from the flexibility and value for money that this new packaging alternative offers. The packaging machine’s wide range of options enables us to offer Big Bales ranging in volume from 2.25 m3 to 4.5 m3. The casing soil is pressed together, enabling a larger volume per pallet, consequently achieving significant reductions in packaging and transport costs. Another advantage is that Big Bales are sealed watertight, assuring the quality of the product even after long-term storage.

Major advantages of the Big Bale include:

  • Efficiency
  • Easy handling
  • Smaller volume (compared to Big Bags)
  • Cost savings
  • Logistics dispensing system available
  • Environmentally friendly
