All strawberry substrates produced by BVB Substrates benefit from years of experience, thorough testing and feedback from researchers, consultants and cultivators. We have the perfect substrate for each cultivation method, each system and each cultivator.
An important aspect of our substrates is that we use our own milled peat fractions. Our buyers select the best sods from several peateries in Europe. Whole sods are then transported to our production facilities, where they are crushed and subsequently sieved in accordance with strict guidelines. Sieving produces fractions that can be mixed in various proportions, depending on the required end result.

Our substrates for strawberry and small fruit cultivation are divided into the following main groups:
C1 Very coarse small fruit substrates made of carefully selected white peat fractions. These mixtures offer efficient aeration, even when they are used for more than one season. For better water uptake, we recommend using the variety containing coir fibre.
C2 Coarse, firm strawberry substrates for continued crops, made of hard white peat fractions. High-quality mixtures with very firm fractions from our own crushing and sieving mills. The use of our own milled peat fractions guarantees long-term stability and sufficient airiness, even after a cold and wet winter.
Depending on the substrate holder, extra coarse, coarse or medium varieties can be used. All varieties offer efficient aeration, and small fractions have been removed by sieving.
C3 Standard strawberry substrates for continued or one-season crops. Our own milled peat fractions are combined with various types of sphagnum peat, resulting in a strawberry substrate that meets the basic requirements of continued crops, one-season crops and perpetual fruiting crops.
C4 Substrates for one-season crops. Our own milled peat fractions are combined with various types of sphagnum peat, resulting in a favourably priced substrate for one-season crops.
C5 Cocopeat-based substrates are ideally suited for use over several seasons. The relatively fine texture of these substrates makes them very suitable for mechanical processing. Moreover, due to the perfect contact between the roots and the substrate, the initial upward growth is strong. In spite of the fine texture, the substrate is still very airy. Due to the main component, cocopeat, the substrates are durable. These mixtures are ideal for use over several seasons. The cocopeat we use has been buffered and rinsed under the supervision of RHP and our own laboratories.
